Oracle is in the northern foothills of the Santa Catalina "Sky Island" Mountains. At an elevation of 4500 feet, its temperature averages 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Tucson. Oracle is located on the boundary between desert grasslands and mountain woodlands. Many homes are surrounded by Emory oaks and picturesque mountain slopes sprinkled with large granite boulders. Oracle's population has grown from 2,483 in 1983 to 3,563 in 2000.

SCENIC ATTRACTIONS
Oracle enjoys a mountainous setting near the many scenic attractions of the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona. The spectacular Galiuro and Santa Catalina Mountains and rolling desert have attracted various TV and movie companies to film on location in the area. The region is a classic example of the range and basin ecological system and is noted for its geological features.

The world famous Biosphere 2, operated by the University of Arizona, is located a few miles south-west of Oracle on Highway 77. It is an ecological research center that offers tours of its facilities and classes to the public.

One of Oracle's many hidden assets is its diverse and talented artistic community. In spring and fall of every year the art community of Oracle opens its doors to the public. Studios, galleries and businesses showcase their best work and offer demonstrations.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES
Facilities include a library, two parks, a community center, historical society and museum, a senior citizens organization and a ball field.

Oracle State Park is a 4000 acre Environmental Education Center and the only wildlife refuge within the Arizona State Park system. It offers many scenic picnic areas, 10 miles of hiking trails, outdoor music concerts, classes on archaeology, geology and wildlife, weekday school trips for children, and an annual fall festival.

A community theater group performs at a nearby facility which has been converted to a theater. The YMCA Triangle Y Camp summer youth camp is located in the Coronado National Forest south of Oracle.

EDUCATIONAL
There is one public elementary school in Oracle. High school students have the choice of attending either San Manuel High School, 10 miles east or Canyon Del Oro High School, 25 miles away in Oro Valley.  Click to see school report card. The Central Arizona College Aravaipa Campus located north of Mammoth, is accredited as the eastern campus of the Pinal County Community College District and is an expanded campus for Northern Arizona University.
